3-Hydroxyphencyclidine, also called 3-HO-PCP, is a new dissociative substance in the class of arylcyclohexylamines. When it is taken, it has strong dissociative, hallucinogenic, and euphoric effects. Its main function is to block NMDA receptors, but it has also been found to have a strong affinity for the -opioid receptor. 3-HO-PCP was first made in 1978 to study how the structure of phencyclidine (PCP) derivatives affects how they work. In the 1980s, it was studied more along with PCP, and it was found to have -opioid agonist activity in animal models.
